Kin

By Alex Claw

You say family before everything, but you weren’t here for the Sickness..

You say blood is thicker than water, but you’ve abandoned us so many times.

You call me Sister, but you’ve been no Brother to me.

We are two strangers who shared the same parents. Those parents are long gone now.

You beg and plead and sob, but I’ve heard that from scores of strangers before. The door will not open. The monsters will be coming soon.

I will stand here and make sure they don’t go any further, because my family needs to be protected. They are everything.

Music – Girls

Girls

There’s some music that are just too good to be ignored. Girls is one of those bands that combine a whole heaping… heap of stuff together and come up with this ultra poppy, almost Beachy sounding, lo-fi sounding awesomeness that you can sit back and enjoy.

It’s good fun music. The kind of music you don’t have to invest much in the way of thinking into. The beat is fast and generally upbeat, the vocals are murky and got a rasp that’s distinctive.

Overall, good damn stuff.

Go listen to it.

The Man in the Dark Suit

By Alex Claw

The Man in the Dark Suit walked up to Bobby and I.

He asked if we wanted a soda.

We said no.

He asked if we wanted a cigar.

We said no.

He asked if we wanted a million dollars.

Bobby said yes.

The man said he’d give it to Bobby for his soul.

Bobby said no, thanks.

The Man in the Dark Suit nodded and left.

Ricky came back from the restroom.

He said a man gave him a thousand dollars for his soul.

The Man in the Dark Suit came back and took Ricky’s soul.

Poor, poor Ricky.

It’d be served on a silver platter, but silver is in short supply. Damn vampires.

Music – Phantogram

Phantogram was one of those bands that I dug when I first heard it. With their weird psychy tones, haunting melodies, it was a great band to listen to when you’re drawing or writing. Then, one day I seem to have just misplaced the band and the songs.

They came back with a vengence of sorts. One day with the music player just randomly playing songs, “Mouthful of Diamonds” came on and then all those awesome times came flooding back into my mind. It was like falling in love all over again, but with a band and their songs, not that girl that broke your heart and left you crying for days…

So Phantogram’s back on the playlist and I’m once again digging it. Goes great with drawing black and white images of undead people.

OZM FTW.

All Fall Down – mini comic

All Fall Down – Mini comic

Y’know, there’s a time in a man’s life where he figures, “I don’t got enough on my plate and there’s still a few more minutes I can try to squeeze something out of” and that time for this fellow came on October 1, 2011.

There I was on a Saturday morning, lying in bed, clipboard in hand and thoughts running rampant through my mind. I then decided that the whole October Zombie Month was the second best idea I’ve had in a few days. Then as I was fleshing out the details for that endeavor, I also came to the sudden realization that I do love me some zombies and a month dedicated to the zombie requires more sacrifices of my time and love.

So an idea for a mini comic to run throughout the month of October was formed and the plans laid out, the troops recalled, and the bombs readied. Seeing as I’ve never done a mini comic and as of yet haven’t been able to tell a story in a few short pages, this would a a daring challenge. I seem to be long winded and verbose in my comic writings.

All Fall Down, the name stolen from a child’s song about the Black Death, what better name to give a mini comic about zombies killing everything? This was one of those quick lightning flashes of an idea that come nearly fully formed in a few minutes of quick outlining. They’re rare and they should be heeded. The Great Muse doesn’t take kindly to fully formed ideas being put on the wayside for less fully formed ideas.

It’s day four now of updating (actually it’s Day Three, but Saturday is counted because I had all intentions of posting on Saturday but I got too drunk instead), and the comic has begun with a bang and there’s much in the way of gore and woe.

I’m oddly enjoying the coloring of the comic, the dark red that’ll be plastered everywhere and the ultra bright eyes that everyone has. It’s got something to it, something that makes me sort of smile.

The comic can be found on the Tumblr site that it shares with the official OZM page. CLICK HERE!

Why Tumblr some of you might ask and the answer is simple enough. Why not? I’ve always wanted to do something on tumblr but never had the motivation to sign up and do it. Now I do and am doing so.

So stick around, come around to the Tumblr site and take a quick mini second gander for your daily dose of All Fall Down. Four panels down and 27 more to go. Let’s make them count, boys and girls.

The Book and The Words

By: Alex Claw

You stand there like nothing happened. You smile like your words didn’t do anything. You hug me like it’s a normal day.

You don’t know how much I want to believe the lies you’re telling. You don’t know how much I want it to be a normal day, with everything back to the way it was.

It can’t though. It’s too late now. Once the book was opened. Once the words were spoken…

I can see it from the corner of my eye. The book. Lying there, taunting with its lurid cover, the words bright like a beacon.

Places to go and all tied up. It’s a metaphor for the hectic lives we live. It really is. Honestly.
