Last Strip of All Manner of Bad

Well, last strip ever is a bit of a hyperbole. Its not the last strip, its just undergoing a transformation.

The reason you haven’t been seeing the webcomic updated recently is because there have been some major, glorious, fantastic changes going on behind the curtain, Wizard of Oz style.

I began AMoB more or less on the whim. A few weeks of thinking about it, I had no idea about websites or webcomics in general, but I knew I wanted to draw and write something with zombies in it. From that All Manner of Bad was born.

Fast forward two and a half years later, I’ve come to that point in my life where it’s sort of go all in as a wannabe professional or keep it as a hobby that stresses me out sometimes.

That’s oddly a very difficult decision to make. One I’ve been struggling with for the last year, almost. Why the internal civil war, you might ask. Well, you see I never really wanted to draw. The drawing for AMoB and various other things are due mainly because there is no one else to do it and I rose to the challenge in my usual lackadaisical way, half assed some meaner folk might say.

My desire has always been to write. To write novels and short stories and tales about the apocalypse or the post apocalypse, where humans battle off the cannibals, crazies, and hell demons bent on conquering the last vestige of humanity. That’s the bit of creativity I’ve always wanted to focus on, drawing has always been secondary.

Yet, drawing has become something I’ve taken a big heaping liking to. There’s something about the semi physical, therapeutic nature that first drew me to it and the technical, trying to figure out where bits and pieces goes that’s been keeping me gradually improving my skills. I’m an okay drawer, I know I can do better, I want to do better, but not just from a drawing point of view, but also from a story telling point of view.

AMoB, as stated before, didn’t get much in the way of planning and universe laying out. The characters weren’t thought out before and they weren’t really developed prior to their faces showing up on the strips, over the years some of those characters… characteristics have formed and their personalities solidified, but in the beginning, I barely even knew them.

And because of that, the stories suffered. The necessary effort wasn’t really exerted and although some story lines came out good, others didn’t have the same power or thought behind it.

Now, that’s all going to change because of one major thing that’s going to happen in the next few days…

REBOOT!

I’m sure a few of you are groaning already at the word. I was going to say this isn’t a DC style reboot, but then realized it sort of is. The characters are the same and the place is still the same and the general story will be the same, but the flow, the pacing, and the overall arc and structure will be pruned and shaped to what I’ve wanted it to be for the last year.

You’ll have your good ole Jase, Bryan, Tiffany, Lucy, Raul, and Yanabah, the only differences is that some of the paths they wander along will be different from what they were before.

And that’s it. The Big Honkin’ News, told in extra super long form.

Here’s to a good hard reboot and many years of zombie mayhem to come.

Alligator V Pigeon
Written By: Alex Claw

The Alligator Chief stood beside the Pigeon Chief and they eyed one another warily.

The war had been going on for decades and no one really knew how it began, but the hate ran deep and long. That was all about to end soon.

“We’re here for peace.” the Alligator Chief announced.

“You’ll have peace,” the Pigeon Chief began. “when you’re all dead!”

With that the pigeon dive-bombers came and wiped out the Alligators.

What’s the moral of this story? Never trust a bird that shits on your car when it’s parked in the open, because they can’t be trusted.

I don’t like pigeons. they’re horrible critters and they don’t taste good at all!

The dude’s got those come hither eyes, y’know the ones that are offset and one pupil is bigger than the other, that either means they’re super high, drunk, or having a stroke.

This is perspective drawing, not porno drawing, so stop thinking that way, perc.

Y’know, I’ve never really drawn super heroes, or super heroic like critters flying through the air and all that. I’m not sure why… Hell, I’ve been drawing nearly dairly for the last three years and I don’t think I’ve tried drawing a superman, batman, or spiderman. All I’ve been drawing are dudes standing and looking and pointing and punching.

I need to expand that horizon.

This isn’t a superhero, but it’s got the semi flying through the air thing down.

You Were Forewarned

The stage actor raised his hand and gestured to the crowd. In a thick Russian accent he announced: “We are coming for your children this night! Zombie Lenin requires it! He shall rise again and consume the world!”

The audience burst into laughter at this and continued to watch the play.

It wasn’t until later that night, when every couple returned home to empty homes did they realize the actor wasn’t joking. It was much later after that when the stories began coming in about an army of zombies consuming everything. By then, it was too late to do anything.

People think you’re joking when you’re telling the truth. Seriously, I do it all the time and everyone figures I’m just kidding. Up until they come home and see they’re babies and wee ones are missing. Then its too late.

Fountain of Wishes

Donald entered the Garden through the side gate. It was dark and overgrown, ages since the plants had been trimmed and they loomed in twisted shapes overhead.

The fountain rested in the center of the perennial growth, bubbling an unnatural blue

Donald took out a penny from his pocket. He dropped the cent into the water and it made a hissing sound, a flurry of white bubbles peeling off the copper jacketed coin.

“Make your wish, Donald.” A disembodied voice stated.

“Peace on Earth. Forevermore.” Donald announced, a smile on his face.

The disembodied voice laughed and laughed and laughed.

Monsters
Written by: Alex Claw

When you were a kid you believed there were monsters under your bed. If you weren’t quiet and still they’d crawl out of their dark places and gobble you up. It didn’t help that your parents encouraged the belief, they had a lot on their plates at the time.

Saying there were monsters under your bed meant you wouldn’t come out at night and bother them during the only time they had to themselves. It was all a lie, you understand? There were never any monsters under your bed.

They were in the ceiling, watching and waiting.

And so hungry.

***

I never believed in the monsters under the bed or in closest, but I was always scared of the skin walkers outside, scrapping on your windows and leaving their half man half animal tracks in the dirt outside your house…

I was feeling a wee bit WW! this morning. Toxic gas and trench warfare.

One of those mornings… yawn.
